Jack Wolfskin GoBackPack Morocco

As part of the Jack Wolfskin GoBackpack campaign, we went on a tour of Morocco.

On board was a whole team of 16 different people from all over the world.

They accepted the challenge of testing themselves and their own limits, and of supporting a selected social project and bringing the country and its history to the world.

Morocco

Until the 7th century, Morocco was predominantly inhabited by Berber tribes. With the conquest by Arabia, these tribes were largely Islamized and Arabized. However, a sizeable minority still continues their Berber traditions to this day and uses one of many Berber languages as their mother tongue.

The Ait Khozema Project

Carpet researcher Wilfried Stanzer launched the project in 1996 together with the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and Crafts. The aim was and is to revive traditional and sustainable carpet production.

The social background must also be mentioned here: the carpets are made by women. Stanzer has campaigned to ensure that these women can have their own income. Part of the proceeds are used for school education and local medical care.

Jack Wolfskin has traveled to this village and supported the project both financially and with manpower. Ultimately, the support made it possible to train an additional medical specialist for the village.
